For the past four years, Le~ ominster has been the base for an energetic sport that is similar to handball. But training in Hereford will start at 6.55pm next Wednesday' and will consist of 40 minutes of fast-paced fun. Phil Moore. chief exec- utive officer of Tchoukball UK. said the aim now is to engage with the Hereford community~ and encourage more people to get active and try a new team sport this year. "We are very keen for new clubs to become established and engage local commu— nities getting more people more active. more often." he said. "This is one of Halo Lei- sure's targets and we are keen for Herefordshire Tchoukball Club to work with the local leisure trust to achieve this." Open to anyone aged 16 and above. sessions will comprise of an introduc— tion to the sport. where players will be taught the basic skills, A team consists of seven players and the sport is non-contact. with no inter— ception of the ball between players. "It is great for general all- round fitness and teaches basic skills of throwing and ca‘hing in a competi- tive environment." added Moore. “If you’re in the cricket off-season then Tchoukball is a great one for you to maintain fitness and still get ball handling skills. “It’s good for lots of other sports, too, such as rugby, basketball, netball and volleyball. Herefordshire Tchoukball has been work- ing to engage local schools where many past and pre- sent students have played the sport and are very keen to see these players coming along to the club. “Tchoukball is great for businesses looking to build teamwork Within their workforce and the club en- courages the local business community to get involved and support the club by en- couraging employees to get active and have fun whilst exercising and building fit— ness within the workforce.” Sessions cost £3 and are available for anyone to join. Evans is ready for ‘unfinished business’ mn- HEREFORD professional boxer Dean Evans is gear~ ing up for the biggest fight of his career so far when he takes on Andy “Thunder” Harris for the British Chal« lenge title. The contest at Glouces- ter’s GL1 Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 13 is being billed as “unfinished business” due to previous matches between the pair. “We boxed each other twice in the amateurs and he got both decisions," said Evans, who trains at Her- eford Boxing Academy. “1 was robbed in the sec- ond tight in Cheltenham and aimto put the record ~ straight now in the pro ranks. Andy has been in with the likes of Tom Stalker, Luke Campbell and Charlie Flynn in his 35 pro fights, so he’s got a lot of experience.
