Discoed CONCERT — Discoed sees the return of four international early music musicians performing a concert of music for oboe, bas- soon, viola da gamba and harpsi- chord. The concert takes place at St Michaels Church (LD8 ZNW) on February 6 at 7.30pm and focuses on English repertoire from the Galante era including works by Mozart and J C Bach alongside those of the leading performers on the 18th century London scene such as Fischer and Lidl. The performer, including Mark Baigent, Nathaniel Harrison, David Hatcher and David Wright, all work with leading period instrument orchestras and ensem- bles both here and abroad, includ- ing La siécle, English Baroque Soloists, Kings Consort, Musicians of the Globe and Red Priest. Performing on period instruments from the late 18th century, the evening is a rare chance to hear their instruments rich and varied colours in a wide selection of unu- sual and thrilling repertoire. Send news to yo A lesson from the very best A-LEVEL film studies, commu- nication and culture and photog~ raphy students were privileged to hear from accomplished docu- mentary photographer and film- maker, Zed Nelson, this week about some of his award-winning projects. Zed has been published and ex- hibited worldwide, winning many awards including the Visa D‘or and International Picture of the Year awards. He has covered some very dif— ficult subjects from the poll tax riots in 1990 which saw Zed‘s first published photograph, to the des- peration of famine in Somalia. He gave a fascinating account of the research he undertook for the book, Gun Nation, which holds a mirror up to the gun culture in America. Followed by a look at the beauty industry in a series of im- ages titled Love Me.
