Hereford FC goalkeeper Martin Horseil has been an ever
present since joining the club from Yate Town
HEREFORD FC manager Pete
Beadle admitted his side weren‘t
clinical enough after the Bulls‘
remarkable winning run came to
an end at home to Alvechurch.
“We have been very fortunate
recently that the lads have been
very clinical and scoring goals,
but it eluded us a little bit and we
go into the next game," said
Beadle.
“it’s been a phenomenal run, but
looking it at another way, it‘s 29
games undefeated, so we just
have to keep going.
“it wasn‘t vintage and we didn‘t
create a huge amount, but you
credit them with what they did.
“But we didn’t get beaten and no
one was going to win a trophy on
the day.”
Beadle felt it was a well-contest-
ed game.
“it was two good teams who
went at it, which was full-blooded
and played in the right manner
and maybe a draw was efair
result in the end.
“it was a great start from us, but
maybe we could have done with a
second goal before half—time just
to see how the game would
change in the second half.
"But we didn't get it and they got
the goal early in the second half,
which got their tails up.
“But it was a good game, with
plenty of blood and guts, we just
weren’t quite clinical enough in
the final third.”

poor finishing

take a number of chances
Richard Coiwell was delighted
with a point
“A draw suits us, but we’ve got a
lot of games to play though,” he
said. “We’ll just take each game
as it comes, we’ll keep working
and training hard and the one
thing we won’t do is die and roll
over.
“We know we’re underdogs with
their facilities, crowd, finances
and the stature of the club, but we
won’t roll over and dis.”

Horsell: Taking spot
is just part of game
HEREFORD FC goalkeeper
Martin Horsell says “it is
never nice muscling anoth-
er player out“ after replac-
ing ever-present Harvey
Rivers.
Horsell. who joined Her-
eford from Yate Town. has
played every game after
hooking up with the Bulls
at the beginning of last
month.
Up until that point, Riv-
ers had featured in every
match for Hereford.
“I came here to battle out
a position, it's never nice
muscling another player
out, but that’s football,"
said Horsell.
”I hear he's gone on to play
in the league above [for
Swindon Supermarine],
which is good experience
for him.
“He’s young. he’s driven
and is very good in training
and I think he will do well.
“The gaffer [Pete Beadle]
has spoken to me and said
he’s looking for a bit of ex-
perience and hopefully I’ve
provided that.
“He has filled every posi-
tion twice, even three-fold,
and he definitely wanted
cover as a goalkeeper.”
Horsell says he is enjoying

his time at Hereford.
“It’s been a change from
playing in the league above.
but when you look at the
fan base, the stadium and
the quality of players we’ve
got in the changing room,
it’s all highly professional
and it‘s a nice environment
to be around,” he said.
Recently, Ryan Green and
Nathan Summers have
been the first-choice centre-
back partnership meaning
Jamie Willets, another ever-
present player since joining
Hereford, has missed out.
Hereford drew 1-1 against
Alvechurch last Saturday
in the Midland Football
League Premier Division.
It was the first time the
Bulls had not won a game
in 27 matches.
“They definitely came
with a game plan to sit
back and make it difficult
to break down. but I felt we
had more chances — they
only really had one shot,”
added Horsell.
“We could have taken our
chances and won the game,
but fair play to them, they
put the work rate in and
you could tell that they won
the battle.”
Hereford got off to a dream
start after only six minutes
when Ryan Green power-
fully headed home Dylan
Bonella’s corner.
But, despite chances to
extend their lead, Hereford
only had a one—goal advan-
tage going into the half-
time break.
Mustapha Bundu headed
straight at Alvechurch
goalkeeper Matt Sergeant,
while John Mills’ shot
lacked power.
Mills was then through on
goal after 49 minutes, but af-
ter rounding Sergeant, the
prolific marksman could
only find the side-netting.
Bundu then showed neat
footwork to get into a good
scoring position, but his lob
just went over.
That miss proved to be cru-
cial because Alvechurch
equalised after 55 minutes.
After breaking down the
left-hand side following
a Hereford corner, Nick
Wright drove the ball past
an on-rushing Horsell.

church and they worked

hard to keep Hereford at
bay. However, it was the
home side who came closest
to scoring the winner when
Bundu’s shot'came back off
a post with 10 minutes left.
A total of seven minutes of
stoppage play was played,
no doubt caused by a num-
ber of players squaring up
to each other following a
heavy challenge by Her-
eford captain Joel Edwards
on Alvechurch substitute
Mike Wardle.
