We may safely say that all local record went by the board on Friday evening last o the occasion of the Patriotic Concert in ai of the Belgian Refugees and the Local Wa Relief Fund . Every seat in the hall ha been sold oefore the doors were opened , we over 800 of these being 3s . seats . There was an enthusiastic spirit amongs the audience different to anything we hav " experienced at any similar event in the Cor Exchange . First we must give credit to th committee which set about the preliminarie with such good will that nothing was omi ted which could in any way add to th pleasures of the evening . This feeling wa conveyed to the public who bought up th tickets with unusual fr eedom and i some cases those who could not attend gav their tickets up to be sold a second tim The artistes again were imbued with th feeling that they must be equal to such a exceptional occasion , and right well did the respond to every call upon their talents . I fact from start to finish those who had t privilege of taking part felt that not on had the concert achieved an immense s cess financially , but that they left a newed confidence in the patriotism and fe vour with which the people of Ross are d termined to support their King and count at the greatest national crisis that ev hung over the heads of the people of o >> great Empire . a mo W Every item was exceedingly well receive and encores were frequently demanded by delighted audience . It will be difficult give special praise to any one contributo but we would like to express the gener feeling that Mrs. Slatter won our deep grat tude for her delightful singing , and for h willing consent to give her services in th cause of charity . Her singing was marke by a rare beauty of tone and a pleasin charm of manner , which quickly capture the sympathy of the audience , and evident made her feel quite at home , for in respon to an insistent demand for an encore sl gave us what was generally considered to the gem of an exceedingly good pr Mr. S. Mrs. B don's harp solo was greatly appreciated , a the violin solo by Miss Grace Sadler v exquisitely played , and met with a deserved encore . The pianoforte duet .
