The weather , up to 12 o'clock , was very rough indeed , but just before the sale commenced the storm cleared off , and t was delightfully fine during the whole of the sale . There was a very large company pre- sent , and the result was highly satisfactory throughout . The conduct of the sale ws placed in the hands of Messrs . Cooper and Preece , who carried it through expeditiously and with a very satisfactory result . MEN'S OWN BROTHERHOOD . - There was a good attendance at the weekly meeting of the Ross Men's Own Brotherhood , held at the Town Hall on Sunday afternoon , Mr. A : E. Mogg occupving the chair . Mr. Rohson the Weslevan lay evangelist . pave an in- spiring address on the text , " I have fought the good fght . " In the course of his re- marks he referred to the noble life of Lord Roberts , whose death , said the speaker , had brought nearer home to them the character of his noble living . Lord Roberts proved a friend to Tommy Atkins , whom he helped to live a cleaner and more temnerate life . He also founded the Roval Army Temporance Association , which assisted the men to resist Tord temptation of " the thirsty East . " Roberts fought life's battles in the highest sense inasmuch as he battled against the foes that were moral . Would it he nossible for them to conclude and say . " I bare fought the fight . " BAPTIST YOUNG PEOPLE'S SOOIETY . - There was a good attendance of members and friends at a social held in connection with the Broad - street Baptist Church Young People's Society . on Tuesday evening , when Musie a most enjoyable time was spent . and games were interspersed in the pro- gramme , while refreshments were handed round in the interval . TERRITORIALS DEATH AT HEREFORD . - The first death to occur amongst the men of the 1st ( Reserve ) Battalion , Herefordshire Regi- ment of Territorials , took place on Friday nt . the Herefordshire General Hospital , at which institution 22 . Private Charles Wright . whose home is at Little Marele , suceumbed to pneumonia after a short illness . He was buried in Little Marcle Churchyard on Mon day with military honours . His mother re- ceived a letter from Lord Kitchener stating : The King commands me to assure you of the true sympathy of His Majesty and Queen in your sorrow . " ++ Belgian Refugees . Through he kind instrumentality of Mr. L. B. Lee . of How Caple Court , employment has been found for one of the Belgians , M. Auguste Neer man , in a Weaving Factory at Rouen . He started for Malannay , near France on Wednesday . Employment in or near Ross is wanted for He has at the man de Winter , aged 47 . BAKER'S CHARITY . The monthly meeting of this charity we held at Bank Offices , Ross , on Tuesday las when Mr. W. E. Cole ( Chairman ) presided The question of the irregular attendance some of the members at the meetings this Board was discussed , and the Clerk wa instructed to write to the Urhan Distric Council as the appointing authority , call their attention to the same . The sur of £ 45 16s . was distributed amongst 13 poor persons . ROSS CHARITY TRUSTEES . The Rev. R. T. A. Money - Kyrle was.vo ed to the chair . The Clerk produced the financial stat ment in connection with the unendowe Almshouses , which showed a considerable d ficit , and it was decided to invite furth subscriptions to pay for the repairs . The question of the distribution of bre tickets at Christmas was considered , wh several alterations were made in the d tricts , and in the number of tickets for d tribution in each district .
