Kemp . the auctioneer , asking if he could be allowed to hold weekly wholesale fruit markets during the months of Angust , September , and October . committee agreed the suggestion , as there would be no extra expense to the Council . They also considered that it would be very much better if the wholesale fruit market was held at the Townhall , as it would at- tract larger attendances . It was recom- mended that this suggestion should be laid before the uctioneer . He ( Mr. Davies ) pro- posed the adoption of the report . Mr. LEWIS seconded . The Mr. MEREDITH said he thought the sug- gestion as to weekly wholesale fruit markets . and its being held at the Townhall was a very wise one . The following extracts from an Army Order of Sir John French , dated last Sunday , are published in the " Times " : In view of the magnificent way in which the troops of the British Army have fought , the hardships they have had to endure , and the heavy losses they have suffered , it is right that all ranks , col- lectively and individually , should form a just and reasonable conception of the gen- eral situation and the object which we are endeavouring to attain . I have made many calls upon you , and the answers you have made to them have covered you , your regiments , and the army to which you belong with honour and glory . Your fighting qualities , courage , and en- durance have been subjected to the most trying and severe tests , and you have proved yourselves worthy descendants of the British soldiers of the past who have built up the magnificent traditions of the regiments to which you belong . You have not only maintained those traditions , but you have materially added to their lustre . It is impossible for me to find words in which to express my appreciation of the J. D. P.
