" Next followed the consignment of Mr. W. H. Probert , a staunch supporter of the Ross market , both as a buyer and seller . Com- paratively juvenile in years , he is a veteran as a dealer and judge , he having purchased 24 head at the splendid average of £ 26 3s . 24d . , and sold 14 at the average of £ 24 1s . 5d . He took a reserve card for a beast under two years , second for a pair of grand black bullocks . Mr. Hodgetts , of Birming- ham , secured the four at £ 30 10s . , £ 30 £ 80 , and £ 96 5s . Mr. Dullam , of Langstone Court , followed with his nsual fine cattle , selling at £ 22 to £ 23 10s .. average £ 22 16s . 10d . G. R. Trafford , Esq . , submitted six fine animals , which sold at £ 27 10s .. £ 27 , £ 25 17s . 6d .. £ 23 2s . 6d . , £ 22 , £ 22 2s . 6d . , average £ 24 12s . 1d .

This red letter day of the year has again passed , and favoured with a fine day and a capital attendance , a considerable catalogue of extraordinary good cattle was quickly negotiated at what everybody says good prices . Farmers in this district have held for many years a reputation as first class feeders of stock , and their efforts have in- variably been crowned with success . Mr. H. A. Preece , before commencing the sale of cattle , said on behalf of his firm he wished to thank the farmers for their staunch support throughout the year ; also the buyers for their regular attendance , the givers of prizes , and those who had kindly given their assistance in helping the sale forward . It was generally remarked by good judges that they hadn't seen a better selection of cattle for many years . We believe that up to the moment of going to press , that £ 99 5s . , the amount paid for a ripe Hereford bullock of Mr. Geo . Stanley Price's , of Hom , had top- ped the county ; at any rate , no report of Mr. A. T. They were marvellously ripe . They Hom reputation had been maintained , and carried the following ribbons and honours : following prices , as they are extraordinarily good : Mr. Cresswell , £ 39 5s .; Mr. Probert . £ 35 10s . ( winners of Capt . Ker's prize ) , £ 36 ( 5s .. £ 38 56 .; Mr.

The largest contributor to the market during the year was Mr. J. J. Corbishley , who takes the prizes therefor . A

The result of the sale was wholly satis- factory . The sale was over 2.15 p.m. , enabling purchasers to get their stock off in good time . The awards of the judges , Messrs . Haggett , C. E. Elliott . Cresswell and Summers gave the utmost satisfaction . Thanks are given to the four young farmers who gave the auctioneers such valuable assistance in sending the cattle so expeditiously into the pens for sale , viz . , Mr. F. Hodges , Mr. J. H. Bellamy , Mr. W. Corbishley , and Mr. Ernest Wigmore . The following is a list of prize - winners Best pair maiden heifers , any age . First prize , case of wines or spirits , value £ 2 2s .
