WESTON - UNDER - PENYARD . FOUND DEAD IN BED . A farm labourer named James Rudge , who lived by himself in a cottage at Lane End , Weston- under - Penyard , was discovered dead in bed on Sunday morning , December 6th . He was at work as usual on the Saturday , and was last seen alive at 9 o'clock at night . Next morning he was missed , and on an entrance being effected to the house at 10 o'clock he was found lying dead in bed . Everything in the house was in order , and as death was obviously due to natural causes an inquest was not held . Rudge , who was 65 years of age , had for some time suffered respira- tory difficulties .

After this , halts were made at the Font , the Praver Desk , the Lectern , and the Pulpit , at each stage the Archdeacon ex- horting the Rector to he diligent in his duties , the latter responding with " I will so do , the Lord being my helper . " Here , also , suitable verses from hymn 242 were sung . Proceeding to the Sanctuary , the Arch- deacon standing before the altar , the Rector accompanying him , and the Churchwardens standing outside the Communion rails , the verse , " We love thine altar , Lord , ' was sung , and also the concluding verse , " Lord Jesus give us grace . Mr. LEWIS ' REPORT .
Mr. LEWIS , in the course of his monthly report , stated that the telephone posts had been erected at Weston , and were fairly satisfactorily placed . Through Army work he had had a temporary difficulty in getting stone delivered from Drybrook Quarry , and he suggested the Council's consideration of the advisability of employing steam labour instead of traction engine , at 4d . per yard more . A tender had been accepted . - About 50 tons of stehe would be required near Hownhall Bridge . The delivery would be from Mitcheldean Road , and was done by Mr. Eli James last year with team labour at 1s . 4d . , and he suggested the Council's approval of the same course for the fore going requirement .
The Council adopted the report and re- commendations .

The service will long live in the memory of those present . A special interest attaches to the " living " of Aston Ingham , from the fact , that the Benefice has been held by a member of the Whatley family since the year 1787 . that year , the Rev. Charles Whatley became Rector . He held the living for nearly 49 years , and was succeeded by his son , the Rev. Henry Lawson Whatley , who , in his turn , was Rector for over 38 years . In 1873. he died , and was succeeded by his son , the late Rev. Henry Lawson Whatley , who held the incumbency for 41 years .

The wife of Mr. Sowerby , Amy Margaret Sowerby , stated that about 9.30 on Sunday night her husband complained of a pain in his chest . He went into the ad- joining room , and got some whiskey , and then went to his bedroom . As he did not return , witness became anxious , and on going to find her husband saw that he was lying on his bed . She undid his collar , and he asked her to give him some ginger and water , which she did . Deceased said he was in great agony in the region of his heart , and his arm became numbed . They then ob- tained hot water bottles for him , but he be- came very flushed , and died soon after 10 o'clock . Dr. S. Bargrave Wyborn , who was called , and found Mr. Sowerby dead , said death was due to angina pectoris ; and the jury accordingly returned a verdict of death from natural causes , and added a vote of sympathy to Mrs. Sowerby , in which the Coroner joined .
BELGIAN COMMITS SUICIDE . DISTRESSING AFFAIR AT LITLEY COURT .
A Belgian named de Winter , who , with his wife and child , has for the past seven weeks been the guest of Sir Robert and Lady Lighton at Litley Court , Hereford , committed suicide on Monday by jumping into the river Wye from the Court gardens . Deceased , who was 63 years of age , hailed from Leire , and was a postal clerk . He went out on Sunday morning with the in- tention of attending the church of St. Fran-

WELCOME TO ROSS .
What could be more welcome in Ross than open - hearted statements like the following . Week after week local men and women speak out in this earnest way , and their personal experiences ring with encouragement .
On July 5th , 1918 , Mrs. M. Powell , of Chase View , Coughton , near Ross , said : - " Some time ago I had a cold in my back which made it very painful . I used to feel tired and languid ; my head was bad , too . I seemed to be out of sorts altogether .

Mr. LOCK said the road was in a very bad condition , and he agreed that these holes should be filled in with tar chippings .
