MEN'S OWN BROTHERHOOD .
A " POPULAR ERROR . " . The open meeting on Sunday last was pre- sided over by Mr. John Coates , and address- ed by Mr. T. J. Guy . There was a large at- tendance .
The Speaker based some thoughtful re- marks - which he modestly said were " scat- tered " upon the incident of our Lord's re proof of Peter ( 8. Matthew . chap . 16 , verses 22 and 23 ) . He thought the passage might be translated , " God forbid - this shall not happen to you ! " And the reply , " Geb thee behind me , Hinderer - thou art a cause " Satan " was cer- of stumbling to me . " tainly not to be read as " Devil , " it simply meant " adversary . " Peter's motive was right , but his principle was wrong , he was neglecting the example of his Lord , and run- ning back into the ways of men on the mis- taken supposition that it was possible to further their highest interests by vielding to their lower instincts . That was the popular error with which he proposed to deal . The common idea was that they were going to benefit themselves by looking after " No. 1. " Selfish interests always cropped up in a time of difficulty , and made it hard to do right . Our Lord himself felt the temptation to
look after Himself " henee His rebuke
to Peter .
Mr. Constance's orchestra accompanied the hymns and gave one or two voluntaries which were much appreciated .
Next Sunday . Mr. T. M. Hopkins , har rister - at - law , will be the speaker .

Ross Harriers .
IAST MEET WITH MR ROBE MASTER .
The closing meet of the season popular little pack took place at Gi residence of Mr. Burton Parry , on last when a large and representat pany of sporting ladies and g assembled .
This was also the last on which Mr. Roberts , of King's would serve this hunt as Master , regrets the fact , for Mr. Roberts H himself exceedingly popular in the A good day's sport was thoroughly by all present .
' As usual , the first draw on the land was on the far side of the church lane , and also " as usual " few minutes a strong hare got up in hounds , giving the field a gallop w the day . Crossing the brook at . church , she went on nearly to Trev turning left - handed passed the Whi and again negotiated the brook at t bed above Tretire . Hounds pushed good pace towards the New Inn , b near there swung fo the right , and line down hill to Aberhall , and leav latter on the right raced up to Tr Crossing the Hereford and Monmou at this point , the field followed on t Peterstow , then circling to the left , St. Owen's Cross , and when near P ley , saw hounds run into their hare . 40 minutes . Capital sport was enjoy ing the whole of the day - a brace added to the season's total . ' After partaking of a good Junch Gillow ,
Mr. DUDLEY SMITH rose and s was a very difficult position to occu day , for he had been asked to prop health of Mr. Roberts , who , he was say , was still Master of the Ross H hu who he was sorry to say was giv the mastership , and that would be meet as Master of that pack . Mr. F hen there that morning , but he.ha called away to Yorkshire , and he ( M ley Smith ) now had the honour to the health of the Master of the Ross
er :
This was rather an exceptional ion , for it was not only the last ad meet of the season for the Harriers , wis also the last meet at which Mr. would officially carry the horn . hoped , however , that for their sakes , as his own , Mr. Roberts would be arange one or two more meets ( ap They had had Mr. Roberts as Mas some five years , and he was quite su could not have had a better or more man ; in fact he did not think they h had such a popular Master ( applause all remembered that on the lamentab of Mr. Harry Parry , what a difficult they were in . They also remember hospitality that was extended to t Harewood Park , and whenever he Harewood , he could not help thin Mr. Parry , his kind hospitality , a hope they expressed after his deat they would get a Master who would and carry forward the traditions of - th Harriers , with the same degree of suc Mr. Parry did . He was there to prai Roberts ; and he was not going to do they all knew him far better than but he was confident of this , that the not have found a kinder or more man to succeed Mr. Parry than their Master ( applause ) . Mr. Roberts had them good sport on every occasion hounds had been out , and he had al together an extremely good pack , an all appreciated the good sport Mr. H had provided for them when out wi Ross Harriers ( applause ) . It was going an exceedingly difficult thing to f place . Were they going to fill it ? they were going to fill it , and they gcing ' to do their best to get as g sportsman as they possibly could to tal Roberts ' place . When people talked the Ross Harriers being given up , thes reply that it was all rot ( loud applaus had not the slightest doubt that the . required would be found , for they in Herefordshire were not going to be e given up to foxhunting , but that th Harriers were to be kept going , an they were going to be able to thor enjoy the good sport provided by the Harriers in the future ( applause ) . Th got to keep the Harriers going , and meant to do it ( applause ) . Althoug Fould not have Mr. Roberts as their N he was perfectly certain of this th would be the most popular man in th ( applause ) . It would be for them n get a new master , and when they ha him give him a hearty welcome and s him to the very best of their ability also try to keep him ( applause ) . they found him to be a " rotter , " " chuck " him ( hear , hear ) . He t he had said quite enough , but he wa ging to ask them to drink long li Irosperity to Mr. Roberts , not for Mrs Roberts and Miss Roberts w been out with the hounds on almost pussible occasion ( applause ) .
The company then sang with the g enchusiasm For he's a jolly good which was followed by ringing che Mr. , Mrs. , and Miss Roberts .
Mr. ROBERTS , who was again enth cally cheered on rising to respond , ed Mr. Dudley Smith for the way proposed his health , and also those and gentlemen present for the kin they had received it . He first of a a letter from Mr. Allbright , the Ma the South Herefordshire Foxhounds , ing his regret at not being able to sent with them that morning . Con Mr. Roberts said he had had five cr rather five winters of hunting as of the Ross Harriers , and he could , say they had been the best five year lie . There were , of course . times- life when one must put on the bra were , and he thought that he ough on the brake a little and so steady There had been a lot of talk going some of the things that had been come back to his ears . He was not but was going to take as much in the Ross Harriers in the future a done in the past ( applause ) . He them that when they heard such
