The first portion of the ser vice commenced with that very favourite hymn , " Jesu , lover of my soul which was followed by the 90th Psalm . The lesson was touchingly read by the Rev. R. D. Evans , and this was followed by the singing of the hymn , " Abide with me . " As the funeral procession left the church for the burial ground , which is situated on the top of the high hill to the north of the church , Mr. Threlfall , who presided , at the played the " Dead March " from a ganl . " The ooffin , which was of English oak with solid brass furniture , bore the following inscrip- tion : -
FRANCIS GIBSON FRY ; Died July 4th , 1914 ; Aged 51 years .
The grave in which the remains were laid had been beautifully lined with ferns , white lilies and white roses , by the gardeners from Brookhampton Court . The final obsequies were performed by the Rev. F. R. Green , the Rector of Turnastone , a personal friend of Mr. Gibson Fry , and a very impressive service concluded with the Benediction .
The chief mourners were the Right Hon . Lewis Fry ( father ) . Mr. Lewis G. Fry , Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Mallet , Mr. and Mrs. Mc Oandlish , Mr. and Mrs. Bertram Matthews , Mr. Napier Abbot , Mr. A. M. Fry , Mr. Claud Fry , Capt . and Mrs. T. Raymond Symons and Mr. E. Raymond Symons , the Servants from Mount Pleasant , the Bervants from How Caple Grange , and Nurse Young .
TAKEN ILL AT THE PUPPY SHOW . The news of the death of Mr. Francis Gibson Fry , J.P. , of Mount Pleasant , Hoarwithy , at How Oaple Grange , the re sidence of Capt . T. Raymond Symons , J.P. , and Mrs. Symons , on Saturday evening last , was received with sympathetic regret in Ross and the surrounding country ; throughout which Mr. Gibson Fry was well known and had become deservedly popular as a sportsman . The event is made all the more sad and painful by reason of the fact that Mr. Gibson Fry , while appearing to be in the very best of health , and while in company with many of his personal friends , was cut down endden- ly through a seizure which proved fatal . It was only on Tuesday in last week that Mr. Gibson Fry was attending the annual puppy show in connection with the South Hereford- shire Hunt at the Kennels , Wormelow , and at the luncheon which followed the judging , he made a most typical and humorous speech in submitting the health of Mr. M. C. Albright , the Master . Indeed Mr. Gibson Fry had seldom been seen in a more jocular mood , and his wit and humour on that occasion brought forth the laughter and hearty applause of those present , who de- clared at the time that Mr. Fry had never made a better speech . But little did they think it would be his last , for after drinking the health of the Master , Mr. Fry . with the company present . sang most heartily " For he's & jolly good fellow . " Shortly after the Master had responded the proceedings closed with the company rising to sing the National Anthem , but Mr. Fry remained in his seat , a most unusual thing for him to do . But even then nothing appeared to be wrong with him , and the majority of the company had left the marquee in which the Inncheon was served before it was discovered that Mr. Fry was feeling unwell . The day was an in- tensely hot one , and from what could be gathered from Mr. Fry's feeble remarks it appeared as though he had had a sunstroke . Dr. Rae , of Fownhope , was at once sent for , hut in the meantime every attention was given to Mr. Fry by Captain T. Raymond Symons and Mrs. Symons , Mr. Corbett Winder , Mr. George Davey , Mr. Dudley Smith . Mr. W. B. Pilkington , and others who had been summoned to Mr. Fry's assistance . After Dr. Rae had seen Mr. Frv he was placed in Captain Symons ' car and driven to How Caple Grange . On further examination by other medical men it was found that Mr. Gibson Fry was suffering from a very severe seizure , which had taken away practically the use of almost his whole body , he being paralysed all down one side down one of and rendered speechless . medical skill and splendid nursing Mr. Fry never recovered from the seizure , but gradu- ally grew weaker and passed away at 9.30 on Saturday night , at the comparatively early
age of 51 years .
Among the very large crowd present , which included representatives from all the sporting institutions and public bodies with which Mr. Gibson Fry was associated , we noticed Sir James Rankin , Bart . , Sir John Oarden , Bart . , Sir Archer Croft , Col.
