The following letter was read from the Local Government Board : - " I am directed by the Local Government Board to advert to your letter of Mar. 9th last , forwarding plans , esti- mates and details of a proposed gravitation scheme of water supply for the parish of Whitchurch , and I am to state that after careful consideration of all the circumstances the Board have decided not to press the Rural District Council at present to proceed with the scheme . " - There was no comment on the communuication . - The Local Govern- ment Board asked for returns showing the results of the inspection of dwelling - houses under the Housing , Town Planning , etc. , Act , 1909. The Surveyor was instructed to complete the returns asked for .
WHAT DYSPEPTIOS SHOULD KNOW
PHYSICIAN'S TIMELY ADVICE . The fact that few dyspeptics really under- stand the cause of their trouble is probably the reason why drugs are still used to such an alarming extent . The practice is wrong , however , and is strongly condemned by many physicians .
The presence of excess acid in the stomach is the cause of practically all forms of diges- tive trouble , and this can be neutralised and rendered harmless by the occasional use of ordinary bisurated magnesia - a product which can be obtained of any chemist . Phy- sicians use bisurated magnesia themselves as well as recommend it to their patients , be- cause they recognise that it not only over- comes dangerous stomach acid and thus en- sures easy digestion , but by its use no harm- ful drug is introduced into the system and therefore there can be no unpleasant after effects . Half a teaspoonful taken in a little- water after meals is usually quite sufficient to keep the food contents of the stomach free from fermentation and acid , thus en- suring normal digestion .
Inquiry amongst local chemists show that bisurated magnesia is well known for its valuable properties , and that special arrange ments have been made by Albert Porter , of 18 , High - street , to supply it in both powder and tablet form .

LYDBROOK . FLOWER SHOW . - This annual event , which always takes place the Thursday fol- lowing August Bank Holiday , will this year be on August 6th . Every preparation is being made by the committee to make this show even more successful than in former years , and an attractive programme will shortly be advertised in all the local papers . TEACHERS MEETING - A meeting of the Forest of Dean Teachers belonging to the N. U. T. was held at the Courtfield Arms on Saturday last , but perhaps owing to the grand summer weather and the at- traction of out - door sports , the attendance was not a large one , about 20 being present . A paper was read by Mr. Bryant on the Teachers ' Registration , and a short discus- sion ensued . Those present enjoyed an ex- cellent tea provided by Mr. and Mrs. C. Knight , the host and hostess of the Court- field Arms .

ROSS AND DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE .
ROSS " A " V. BROCKHAMPTON . Ross " A " team visited Brockhampton on Saturday last with a very depleted team , two substitutes having to be picked up on the way . The home captain won the toss , and sent the visitors in . At the commence- ment Sherwood played very confidently , but when well set had the misfortune to play on . He had made 20 out of 24 runs for the first wicket . Little played his usual patient game for his runs , but none of the other men did themselves justice , and the side were all out for 59.
