DEAN FOREST MINERS WAGES .
On Monday afternoon , Mr. G. H. Rowlin- son , the Trade Union agent for the Forest of Dean coalfield , addressed two turns of workpeople at Norchard Colliery , Lydney , on the question of the recent reduction in wages , notices respecting which , to take effect on Monday , the 4th inst . , were posted at all the collieries , steam and house coal alike , on Tuesday , the 5th inst . He said that whilst the reduction as regarded the house coal collieries was in order , it was a high - handed proceeding on the part of the management of the steam coal collieries , where 3,000 workpeople were engaged , to put up notices to reduce their wages like- wise , because no one had been consulted with regard to it . However , the workmen's re- presentatives had had a meeting with the steam coal managers , with the result that they would work on the old rate until the 18th , when the reduction would take effect .
