GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER SUNDAY . -After a number of special services , con- ducted by the Rev. Hubert Corke , Vicar of the Holy Apostles , Cheltenham , in the Parish Church during Holy Week the usual services on Good Friday were carried out by the Rev. G. A. Hopkins , the resident Vicar . -On Easter Sunday , the usual services were held . and there were three celebrations of the Holy Communion , in which a large num- ber of parishioners participated . The Church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by a large number of Church workers . The services were fully choral , including an an- them , and the choir , under the leadership of Miss Hoitt , the organist , acquitted them- selves in a creditable manner . The collec- tions for the day are to be devoted to im- provements in the Churchyard .
A Hereford contemporary states that " A movement is on foot which has for its ob- ject the prevention of Hereford teachers earning £ 120 a year and over undertaking private work . Many such teachers are clerks to parish councils , assistant overseers , and several such offices . It is improbable that income tax collectors , and one or two hold the question would have been raised but for the strike and the improved conditions the teachers have forced through their Union . " The office of assistant overseers is held , we believe , from year to year , but in prac-
tice once a man is elected to the office and discharges the duties , efficiently he secures re - election formally . Indeed more often than not the formal act of re - election is not ob- served .

trouble from which people suffer . Medicines and medicinal treatments are useless in such cases , for they leave the source of the trouble , the arid in the stomach , as danger- ous as ever . The acid must be neutralised , and its formation prevented , and the best thing for this purpose is half a teaspoonful of bisurated magnesia , a simple antacid , taken in a little warm or cold water after eating , which not only neutralises the acid , but also prevents the fermentation from which acidity is developed . Foods which ordinarily cause greatest distress can be eaten with impunity if the meal is followed with a little bisnrated magnesia , which can now be obtained in both powder and tablet form from Albert Porter , of 18 , High - street . We would certainly advise those who are subject to digestive trouble to obtain a small quantity and keep it handy .

BOAT BUILDER FOUND DROWNED . Mr. Culmer White , a boat builder of Twickenham , has been found drowned in the Thames off Eel Pie Island . He was lying partly in a boat that had been smashed and partly in the water . A portion of the boat was found near Teddington Weir , over a mile further up the stream , and this suggests that Mr. White had met his death by being carried over the weir . Mr. White , who was seventy- one years of age , is said to have been some what eccentric in his manner of late . He had been in the habit of boating at midnight and In the early hours . It is thought that in the darkness he was carried over the weir by the swollen and fast - running stream .

Although they could only draw with New . castle United on Friday and suffered defeat Chelsea on Saturday , the Blackburn Rovers are certain of carrying off the First Division championship .
