Ross URBAN COUNCIL ELECTION . - This elec- takes place at the Townhall on Monday next , and polling will be in progress from 12 noon until 8 p.m. A keen interest is being mani- fested in this contest , and the result will be awaited with even more interest . Let the electors poll early , and so save a rush at the last hour , which has often been the case of recent years , when an election has taken place .

GINNETT'S ROYAL CIRCUS . - This world re- nowned circus is advertised to visit Mr. Llewellyn's meadow , Station - road , Ross , on Wednesday , April 8th . The programme is indeed a stupendous one as may be seen from the bills . The special and important item is undoubtedly Madame Oma , the famous Russian trapeze artiste . The lady , now known as the Cannon Queen , initiates her per- formance by being fired through mid - air to her trapeze from the mouth of a cannon . Madame Oma has just finished a twelve months ' tour of the world , and Mr. Ginnett secured her services for her first tour of England . Madame Oma's startling feat , which is guaranteed by the proprietors as á reality and not an illusion , is presented at both performances day and night . The rest of the entertainment consists of the usual numbers , equestrian and otherwise , found in circus exhibitions , including , of course , the children's comforters , the clowns . Messrs . Ginnett travel a waterproof tent they are independent of the weather , and therefore never disappoint , whether it is snowing or blowing . There will no doubt be a huge attendance at their performances at Ross .

A specially illuminated stage adds to the enjoyment of the turn . All the variety items are of a first - class character , and the great appreciation of the audiences the first two nights of the week was clearly evinced by the hearty applause . Another very big attraction is announced for next week- Pertab Sinjh and Zenia , the Mysterious , who will present a series of bewildering illusions in their Hindoo Temple Mystery . "

NATIONAL CHILDREN'S HOME . A most in- teresting and successful entertainment was given on Tuesday evening , in the Wesleyan Schoolroom , on behalf of the National Chil- dren's Home and Orphanage . The pro- gramme , which was a lengthy one , consisted of pianoforte solo and duet , action songs , recitations , and a humorous dialogue . All the items in the programme were rendered by young people and children , and the Schoolroom was filled by a most appreciable audience . The Rev. J. Angus took the chair , and briefly sketched the origin and work of the home , which has many friends in Ross . About £ 2 will be realised for the funds of LECTURE AT THE BAPTIST CHURCH . - On Monday evening last a lecture entitled " My trip to Pompeii and North Africa , " illus trated by liemlight views , was given by the Rev. J. W. Kettle , on behalf of the Church Funds , in connection with the Young People's Society . There was a good attend ance , and Mr. Kettle dealt with his subject in a concise , lucid , and very interesting manner . The pictures were extremely clear , and gave the audience a splendid idea of the ancient city and the ruins . The lantern was manipulated by Mr. A. W. Ursell , who gave his services and the use of the apparatus en- tirely free , and for the benefit of the funds . Mr. A. E.
