The proper Psalm sung was the 84th , and the proper Lessons , Isaiah 6 , verses 1-9 , and Titus II . After the sing- ing of the hymn , " Not for our sins alone , the Rural Dean conducted the induction ser- vice . He read the mandate of induction , and was then conducted with the new Vicar by the Churchwardens ( Messrs . W. H. B. Cave and W. E. Watkins ) to the door of the church , where the Rural Dean , addressing the new Vicar , said : " By virtue of this mandate I do induct you into the real , actual , and corporal possession of this Church of Monkland , with all rights , profits , and appurtenances thereto belonging . " Other parts of the Church were then visited , whilst the choir sang , " We love the place , O God . " Special prayers were then offered . An excellent address was delivered by the Rural Dean , after which the hymn " Lord , pour Thy spirit from on high " was sung , and a memorable service concluded with the Benediction , pronounced by the Vicar . Miss Millie Cave presided at the organ during
the service .
LINTON .
PRESENTATION TO A TEACHER . An interesting local event took place in Whad- don School on Tuesday , March 31st . On behalf of the managers , teachers , and schol- ars , past and present , Miss Clara Marshall , who after 22 years ' service in the infants ' school , is leaving to be married , was present- ed with a handsome Queen Anne tea service . The Vicar , the Rev. W. Edmund Dixon , in making the presentation , paid a short but eloquent tribute to Miss Marshall and her work in the school , in the course of which he observed that judging from the visible emotion of all present it was very touching to see the great affection and esteem in which Miss Marshall was held , but that their regret at her leaving the school was sweeten- ed by the thought that she was not leaving the village , that her new sphere of life would be still among them to continue her many religions , social , and educational ac- tivities - In reply , Miss Marshall said she was too deeply moved at their kindness to thank them adequately , but would endeavour to do so later in writing . - Miss Clara Mar- shall is the youngest daughter of Mr. O. Marshall , of Linton , Ross . "

The CHAIRMAN said the primary object of that meeting was to present the Harry Webb Challenge Cup to the winners of the Ross and District Football League this season . On this occasion , that honour fell to Ross Kyrle , who were closely followed by Goodrich ( applause ) . The second object of the meeting was to spend a convivial even- ing together , which he hoped they would all do . He should like , as president of the League , to say how much he appreciated the honour of being elected as their president . He was also glad to know that the league had been carried on very much better dur- ing the past season than hitherto , and that the fixtures had been fulfilled very much bet- ter . The games , too , had been played in a better sporting spirit , and on the whole they had enjoyed a successful season . Football was no doubt the premier British sport , and attracted much larger crowds , including the highest and the lowest in the land , and even their own King had been watching the eup final at the Palace that afternoon , and he ( the Chairman ) had no doubt that King George enjoyed the game quite as much as anyone else present ( applause ) . Football was an admirable game , both physically and morally : physically because a young man who wished to play the game properly had to himself fit , and in proper training ; and morally because the stringent rules , which were emphasised by the referee's whistle .

THE LEAGUE .
The League season opens on Saturday next with a match " Champions v . The Rest , " at the Park , Ross , when a charge of sixpence is being made for admission . This is done Since the to help up the funds of the League , which are at present somewhat low . League was instituted , no appeals have been made to individuals for subscriptions , and as this match is the only means by which the funds of the League can be augmented , with the exception , of course , of the various clubs ' annual fees , it is hoped that the supporters of this National game will purchase a ticket and so financially assist the League , which has done so much to improve the standard of local country cricket .
Two good teams will be opposing each while Goodrich will have the choice of most other at the Park , and we understand that under the of its old players , " The Rest , ' captaincy of Mr. Sidney Price , will be repre- sented by a strong eleven . Wickets will be pitched at 2.30 o'clock .

tells in the end . Not only is this true of individuals but also as regards things of use . Trial and experience are the touch- stones of merit . From time to time all sorts of medicines have been put before the public , and the names of most of these are long forgotten , but Beecham's Pills , which have been in ever - increasing use among all classes of society for three generations , have a greater popularity to - day than ever . Over 6,000,000 boxes are sold annually , Think what these figures signify ! Could this remedy have so extraordinary a sale if it did not supply a real need , -if it was not of genuine worth , if it did not perform what is promised ? A reliable preparation of the most efficacious and carefully selected ingredients of vegetable origin , these pills are of unequalled value for the relief and cure of those digestive irregularities which appear as bilious- ness , constipation , flatulence , failing appetite , dyspepsia , headache , and tho depressed conditions of mind and body that accompany such disorders . When- . ever you need a corrective medicine , a everyone does at times , you should take
