ENTERTAINMENT . - A very greatly appreciat- ed children's entertainment was held at the Victoria Hall on Friday evening , the pro- ceeds being devoted to the fund for the new Liberal hall , which is shortly to be erected in Ross . There was a very large mumber pre- sent , principally children , who very heartily . enjoyed the entertainment of songs , duets , choruses , and instrumental items provided by local children . Miss Robinson was the chief promoter of the concert .
CRICKET CLUB DINNER . - Special efforts are heing made to ensure the success of the an- nual dinner of the Ross Cricket Club , to he held at the Royal Hotel . Ross , on Friday evening . Short speeches are to he the order of the evening , and with Mr. Crump in charge of the musical arrangements , a very pleasant time may he safely expected . Further particulars will be found elsewhere ; in this issue .
WEEK OF UNITED PRAYER . - A very suc cessful week of United Prayer , held under the auspices of the Ross Free Church Coun- cil , concluded on Sunday last , when the var- ious ministers of the Nonconformist Churches in the fown exchanged pulpits for the day . A united communion service was also held in the Baptist Church , and this was largely at- tended , and it is hoped that the united effort on the part of the Free Churches will result in an extension of their good work in the town .
HOUSE DAMAGED BY MOTOR WAGGON - On Thursday afternoon . as Messrs . Chapman and Sons , of Hoarwithy , motor waggon , was being driven from the mill in Brookend- street , to the Millpond to get water , the driver apparently lost control . and as a result the waggon crashed into the house on the corner of Millpond - street and Brookend street , doing considerable damage to the brick work . One window and the front door was knocked clean out , and we understand certain damage was done to the furniture in side the house . An unknown wag scribbled in chalk on the side of the damaged house on Tuesday morning , " Motor waggon , shied at a flock of sheep . driver .
COMPLIMENTARY DINNER TO POLICE . Thanks to the continued generosity of Mr S Barclay , of Weston , the Superintendent Sergeants , and police constables attached t the Ross and Harewood End Divisions of the Herefordshire Constabulary , were again in vited to dinner at the Gwalia Temperanc Hotel , Ross , on Tuesday evening . Supt . J Broad presided , and an excellent repast con sisting of roats turkey , roast beef , plun pudding , sweets and dessert , was exception well served up by Mrs. Pugh . After ful justice had heen done to the many nic things provided , a pleasant and harmoniou evening during which cigars and tobacc were handed round - was spent , most of thos present contributing songs , etc. The healt of the " Kind Donor was submitted b Supt . Broad . The toast was received with musical honours , and a very delightful even ing was brought to a close all too soon b the singing of the National Anthem .
PIERROTS AT LUGWARDINE . - The popularit of the Ross Pierrot Troupe in country dis tricts is still on the increase . On Tuesda evening last they gave a concert at Lug wardine Schools in aid of the funds of th Herefordshire General Hospital . The concer was arranged by Mr. F. W. Barling , of Ba testree Court , who is to be congratulated o its success , for a sum of about £ 5 will b given to the fund . This was the first po casion on which the Pierrots have visite Lugwardine , but the school was crowded with a very enthusiastic audience , who greatl appreciated the very amusing programm given by the troupe , and many considered i to be the finest concert they had had in Lug wardine for many years . The Rev. Le very warmly thanked the Pierrots for the entertainment , and Mr. Barling also thanke his old friends from Ross for coming to Lug wardine . Afterwards the Pierrots were ver kindly entertained by Mr. Barling at Barte tree Court .
SCHOOL MANAGERS ' MEETING.The month meeting of the Managers of the Ross Cou eil Schools was held at Bank Offices on Mo day afternoon , when Mr. F. S. Colli ( Chairman ) presided . Others present we the Rev. R. T. A. Money - Kyrle ( Vice - Chai man ) , Mrs. Evan Thomas , Mrs. Watson , th Rev. J. Angus , Rev. W. A. Powicke , Mr. Llewellyn , Mr. J. Meredith , Mr. F. V Wintle , Mr. H. T. Blake , with Mr. Geor B. Kemp- ( Correspondent ) , and Mr. F. B ton ( Schoolwarden ) ..- The question of D Gold's , the county medical officer's , visit Ross to inspect certain children was left be arranged between the Children's Ca Committee and Dr. Gold . - A circular w read from Hereford with reference to a internal decorations or work that was quired to be done in the school ; a report which was to be forwarded to Hereford soon as possible , so that it could he de with during the summer holidays , other the work would have to stand over for twe months . - The Chairman suggested that visitors for the next month should mak note of this and make a report to the Ma gers at their next meeting as to what t There considered required alteration .

The Chairman said this was a important matter , as he thought som the children in the Ross Schools , which the premier schools in the county , sh compete , and he was sure they all hope see some of these children among the suc ful candidates . - The Correspondent rep that neither of the departments were titled to a half holiday for the percenta attendances / made during the month the Christmas holidays . - The Managers went into committee on important ma concerning the teachers ' resignations salaries , owing to the strike pending .
