The fixture on Saturday last , Ross Kyrle v . Much Marcle , in the Ross and District League competition , attracted quite a large crowd of spectators at Talbot's Meadow . The weather was delightful , but the sharp frost . of the previous night , followed by a thaw and strong sunshine , made the surface of the playing arena very greasy and slip- pery . Unfortunately , neither club was any- thing like fully represented , and as a conse- quence there was not the old - time keenness years used to make the Kyrle - Marcle games
and enthusiasm in the game that in former
so attractive to the Ross enthusiasts . The Kyrle had quite an experimental team doing duty , Davies , of Weston , filling the vacancy between the sticks , whilst Kemp again played at back . Marcle were unable to command the help of the Powells or Whit taker , who , in the past , have proved such . towers of strength to the Marcle Club . Mr. J. Capewell had charge of the game , which proved to be a very pleasant , one , but greatly in favour of the Kyrle , who won by seven goals to one .
In the first half , the Kyrle had the sun and wind in their favour , and from the out- set they soon made tracks for the Marcle citadel . But it was not until the game had been in progress some ten minutes that the Kyrle front rank got going . A pretty move- ment between Bennett , Battersea , and Llew- ellyn was seen in front of goal , and from a fine left cross - shot Battersea found the net for the Kyrle . This was quickly followed by a second from the same player , after which Marcle had a turn , and Davies , the Kyrle custodian , saved some really hot shots . After this relief , the home forwards again took up the aggressive , and after the Marcle keeper had partially saved , Llewellyn got possess- ion of the ball , and quickly drove it home , which put the Kyrle three goals up . From the re - start , Marcle played plucky football , and once again gave the home defence a little trouble , securing two corners in quick
ROSS succession . Both these proved fruitless , and

and added a fourth goal through Bennett , before lemon time , when the score was : Kyrle , 4 goals ; Marcle , nil .
Play was again in favour of the home club on resuming , and their defence was never severely troubled . On the other hand , the Kyrle forwards were seen at their best , con- tinually making raids upon the Marcle goal , and had it not been for the determined efforts of the backs , the goal would have fal- len on more occasions than it did . However , the Kyrle added three goals to their score through Lerego ( 2 ) , and Cload , whilst on one occasion Marcle broke away and succeeded in scoring their only goal . The Kyrle main- tained their superiority to the end , and at ball , the forwards combining well together , times were playing bright attractive foot- and being ably supported by the halves , whilst Kemp and Parry proved to be masters of all the Marcle attacks , and consequently Davies , in goal , had not a great deal to do , but what he had was done creditably , seeing that the position was quite new to him .

The order was that the heat should be contested again before November 30th , but later the association ne- opened the case on its own initiative , and ex- tended the time to the end of February . The committee decided in effect that the Southern ciation proper by reopening a case before any Association had evaded the rules of the asso- attempt had been made to comply with its order and thus settle an awkward case , inas- much as it might have become an inter- national one , the holder of the . The rota is , speaking gener ally , much the same as last year , the cham . pionships at Wimbledon having been fixed to begin on June 22nd . The fact that East- bourne and Brighton have apparently both applied for the same date ( September 7th ) will doubtless be subject to revision by the Tournaments Committee . In view of the pe- tition , freely signed by players last year , to make Eastbourne the last grass court meeting of deposited £ 200 with the Sporting Life to the season , it is difficult to believe , says the Field , that the committee would give East- bourne an earlier date than they have had for twenty years .
