Edgar Edwards , a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Edwards , of Sellack , Ross , was on board H.M.S. Pegasus , which was completely dis- abled , while at anchor in Zanzibar Harbour cleaning boilers and repairing machinery , by the German cruiser Konigsberg . In spite of the fact that the inhabitants of the parish of Ruardean .are chiefly colliers and their families , and therefore contribut ing weekly to the Prince of Wales Fund , the War Relief Committee formed on August 4th has done good work . LONGHOPE . SUICIDE AT MAY HILL . - On Saturday morning John Woolley , a single man , about 55 years of age , who lived alone in a cottage at May Hill , was found hanging to a rafter in his back - kitchen , quite dead . Deceased was a native of Longhope . When a youth he went to Derbyshire to work , and by in- dustry and careful living he saved a con- siderable amount of money . Returning to perty and lived in his own house . On Friday May Hill a few years ago he purchased pro- evening , at 6 o'clock he was working in his garden , but on Saturday morning , about 8 o'clock , a woman named Phelps , who was in the habit of doing his cleaning , called , and found him as above stated . Mrs. Phelps fetched her husband , who cut deceased down , but the body was quite cold . The rafter from which deceased was hanging was not more than seven feet from the floor , and as deceased was nearly six feet high the feet were touching the floor . P.C. Davey , of Huntley , was at once communicated with , and came and took charge of the body .

THE BREEDING OF STOCK .
IMPORTANT TO FARMERS . The Board have received the following from the Agricultural Consultative Com- mittee : -
