BRADLEY COURT V. BROCKHAMPTON . Some remarkable bowling was seen at Bradley Court on Whit - Monday , where the home team were opposed to Brockhampton , N. F. Counsell taking 10 wickets for 10 runs , and incidentally smashing a bail . Going to the wickets first , Brockhampton hit up 189 , of which A. W. Bellamy contributed 50 and The R. Shepherd 21. Davies , who put to- gether a very useful 21 , and the venture closed with the score at 142. Matterface and James came out with the best bowling analysis for Cinderford . Like Ross , the Foresters also made a bad beginning , and had it not been for the splendid efforts of Burdess , James , Wood , and Hall , the score would have indeed been a very poor one . Sprake and Yorath bowled well , the latter taking five wickets for 34 , and the former four for 28. - Scores : -

On Saturday Goodrich and Bishopswood entertained Weston at Bishopswood , but neither team turned out very strong owing to the proximity of the holiday . Winning the toss the home team went in and were soon scoring , R. Pashley making a nice 14 , and the last two men made a good stand The visitors did . the total for 17 between them . Neverthe- less , it was not before the total had reached 76 that Montgomery got past Colling- by bourne's defence . 76-1-52 . The outgoing batsman had compiled his runs in good style . Banner's innings soon came to an end for a steady 23. The next three wickets fell in quick succession , but the following two batsmen were instrumental in helping to take the score to 139 when the players adjourned for the luncheon interval , 189 7-7 . Resuming at 2.45 , Montgomery early had the other batsmen in perplexities , and the innings terminated at 169. Ross made a disastrous beginning . losing the first three hatsmen for only 31 runs . Montgomery here came to the rescue , and hit up 82 be- fore his stumps were disturbed by Burns . Seven wickets were now down for 68. and the position seemed hopeless for the home- aters . Ashton , by no means dismayed , hit ont with refreshing vigour , and chiefly hy means of two 6's and seven 4's , accomplish- ed with astonishing rapidity in his own in- dividual contribution of 46. took the score by leaps and bounds to 180. when he was splendidly caught out in the long field right on the boundary off a mighty smack , which indeed deserved to be counted a 6. The hopes of the Ross club's supporters were now at a discount , and the innings eventu- ally came to a conclusion for 182 , being 87 runs short of the aggregate total made by their opponents . The attempt to raise a sensation in regard to the Calcutta sweep and the rather usually big field for this year's Derby has fallen very flat in racing circles , writes " Asmodeus , " for the stories circulated that certain owners who ran horses possessing but outside chances in the big race were induced to do so for a monetary consideration by those who had drawn horses in the great Indian lot- tery is generally discredited . Moreover , it is difficult to see how the Jockey Club can or would prevent any owner from running & horse who is duly qualified to take part in the Derby . Now , amongst the horses who started
at forlora odds were those owned by such good sportsmen as the Duke of Portland , Lord , Carnarvon , Mr. Leopold de Rothschild , Colonel B. W. Baird , Mr. Russel , M. Aumont ,
Mr. George Edwardes , Mr. James Buchanan , Mr. W. Clark , and Mr. Hulton . Would any of these gentlemen have had their horses saddled for a secondary consideration other than that connected with the race ? The idea is preposterous .

NOTES .
The teams played 12 a side . During the Nondescripts ' innings , no less than six catches went a - begging , and four of those occurred during the first partnership . The blunders must inevitably have affected the final result .
Some of the earlier batsmen would have done better had they played themselves in instead of starting to hit at the bowling too soon . A noticeable fault with them on Mon- day , and consequently the penalty was paid for their indiscretion .
The chief batting honours rested with Ashton and Montgomery , who both treated the onlookers to some capital hits , Ashton especially smiting with great powers when runs were badly needed .
Next Saturday , the Gloucester City Club visit Ross , and on the following Wednesday Cheltenham Town 0.0 .
