Some remarkable bowling was seen at Bradley Court on Whit - Monday , where the home team were opposed to Brockhampton , N. F. Counsell taking 10 wickets for 10 runs , and incidentally smashing a bail . Going to the wickets first , Brockhampton hit up 189 , of which A. W. Bellamy contributed 50 and The R. Shepherd 21. Bradley Court replied with This match was played at Chepstow on ROSS " A " V. CINDERFORD . Saturday , ending in a decisive win for This was a league match , and was play- the Ross Club . Davies , who put to- gether a very useful 21 , and the venture closed with the score at 142. Matterface and James came out with the best bowling analysis for Cinderford . Like Ross , the Foresters also made a bad beginning , and had it not been for the splendid efforts of Burdess , James , Wood , and Hall , the score would have indeed been a very poor one . Sprake and Yorath bowled well , the latter taking five wickets for 34 , and the former four for 28. - Scores : - W. T. W. Jeffery , e Francis , b Stacey R. E. Abbott , c and b Ambrose C. Don't Buy a Kodak ! un- The attempt to raise a sensation in regard to the Calcutta sweep and the rather usually big field for this year's Derby has fallen very flat in racing circles , writes " Asmodeus , " for the stories circulated that certain owners who ran horses possessing but outside chances in the big race were induced to do so for a monetary consideration by those who had drawn horses in the great Indian lot- tery is generally discredited . Moreover , it is difficult to see how the Jockey Club can or would prevent any owner from running & horse who is duly qualified to take part in the Derby . Now , amongst the horses who started at forlora odds were those owned by such good sportsmen as the Duke of Portland , Lord , Carnarvon , Mr. Leopold de Rothschild , Colonel B. W. Baird , Mr. Russel , M. Aumont , Mr. George Edwardes , Mr. James Buchanan , Mr. W. Clark , and Mr. Hulton . Would any of these gentlemen have had their horses saddled for a secondary consideration other than that connected with the race ? The idea is preposterous . Played at Perrystone . Scores : - W. C.
