| Description |
Recipe for plum pudding to feed the poor parishioners of Upton Bishop. The driving fore behind such charity was the vicar, the Reverend F. T. Havergal. This pudding was 'sufficient for 21 persons - 50 children and other attendants.' The dinners were financed partly by an offertory taken in Church (apparently on Christmas day) and by gifts in kind and money from the vicar and others. Invitation lists were prepared, but dinners were sent out also to old and infirm persons unable to attend the social gathering. A meat course (beef) seems to have been provided, followed by Christmas pudding and accompanied by cider. |
