Description |
Deposition before the magistrates of Reuben Jones, a sawyer of Much Marcle, against Jonathan Burton, a shoe maker on a charge of theft of cord wood. Jones had been cutting wind blown ash and other timber on Christmas Eve and Burton, walking past, had asked if it could be purchased. With the Christmas holiday approaching, Jones assured him that he would find out for him. On returning to the site after Christmas, Jones found that the timber had vanished and suspected foul play. Burton was found guilty of theft and sentenced to 7 days' imprisonment. |
