Transcription Welcome to my home. This splendid mansion was built a century ago as a house for the master of Saint Catharine's. Being master is a great privilege, but it's a great responsibility too. Please do not assume that it's a life of luxury. I manage the hospital from day to day, the staff, the buildings, the estates.

It's hard work, and there's always a long list of things to do. At the same time, I have to set an example to the brethren and to the people of Ledbury. A few years back I decided to make some changes.

That was 7 years ago, in 1584, and we've had builders and craftsmen here ever since. We're renovating the almshouses to make them more comfortable for the brethren. We're renovating this mansion too, especially the great hall and the solar, my private rooms. I spend most of my time in my study working.

Have a look at the splendid new wood paneling in there.

One of the carpenters, Robert, has carved my initials and the date above the fireplace. You'll find a portrait of our founder Bishop Folliot in there too.

When I'm working late at night by candlelight and I'm tired, he inspires me to keep going.

Every year at Michaelmas, Saint Catharine's is inspected by the dean and chapter of the Hereford Cathedral.

They go through the accounts with a fine toothed comb.

It's always worrying. I'm keeping detailed records of the building works, just in case.
