But there was one incident, a young lad in Lebury, he came in with a pair of shoes he did and Wanted me to do them and. You walk in, I see you walking up the drive. I used to do a few at home as well in later years. And I called him back. And I said, uh, what are you doing when you're going to leave school? He said, I want to go in the Navy.

I didn't frighten him.

I said, um, I knew his parents, and I said, are your parents home tonight? And he says, yes.

Which is Ask them to come round and see me tonight, and I want you to come with them. Oh, what's the matter? I says, Nothing serious. Just tell them I'd like to see them tonight. Wood, his name was Dave Wood. And uh he did come around and he says what's wrong, Stan? I says, don't get Well, I said, but, Talking to your son, he wants to go in the navy, he said, yes, he do.

I I know he said to the lad.

Walk up the drive, would you? And he did.

And I said, have you noticed your son how he's walking? No, he said, I just.

Look at that right leg, his ankles, and he. But that all the way, and he was weak in the ankles.

He said, we've never noticed that before.

I said, you never passed the navy for that. Can you do anything for it? I said, yes.

I says, you can. I said, he wants some lifts and the heel. Can you do it? I said, I can do it.

I said, but You see a doctor first. Tell you you've come to see me. And I reckon he could do with a good 1 inch in there.

So that, and funny enough, the doctors in those days, you knew them by name.

And the doctor rang me up and he says, you were right, you've got a weak ankle.

He says, uh, He said you could put that in, and I said, yes. And he says, so I'll leave it to you? I said, not with that prescription. He said you want a prescription? I said, too true, I do.

I said, we don't work with prescriptions. And so I said, no, I said, you only do this over a period.

I said it'll take, I said, 2 months.
