Hail the conquering hero
The extraordinary wartime exploits of Don Cotton, an engineer at Barronia Metals Ltd in Widemarsh Street, are described in this edition of "Knight," the works magazine.
The factory, which made valves for aircraft such as Lancaster bombers, had been moved from London early in the war to minimise the risk of destruction. "Knight" contains information on the work of the factory staff members and the social activities they enjoyed. It also details their contribution to the war effort, including ARP work and firewatching.
