Thanksgiving for sacrifices made
The jubilation of VE Day was tempered by a profound sense of loss and of solemn gratitude for the contribution made by so many to victory in Europe. In the far east, of course, a desperate struggle was to continue for three more months. Among the celebrating masses were many who longed for the safe return of loved ones still in mortal danger.
