A black and white photograph of nine soldiers and an officer wearing slouch hats outside the Drill Hall (which has since been demolished), Friars Street, Hereford. The officer is wearing a darker hat, four pocket tunic with pleated breast pockets, a stand and fall collar and a leather rifle belt. The others are in tunics with upright collars, two pockets below the waist, white belts, trousers, puttees and Ammo boots with hobnails. There is a bugler in the front row and on the right a soldier has a bayonet hanging from his belt. They all have swagger sticks and shoulder flashes “1HF”, indicating they are from the First Battalion of the Herefordshire Rifle Volunteers. |
