Description | A black and white photograph of a portrait of Sir Herbert Archer Croft (1868-1915), a Captain enlisted in the Herefordshire Regiment, dated 1900. Beneath are two framed dated coats of arms and a framed letter. One coat of arms reads James Croft Knight (c.1518-1590, ancestor of Sir Archer Croft), and the other coat of arms reads 'Tryumphe o trespas' (possibly Middle English) on the left, and the Latin 'Esse quam videri' (translating as 'to be rather than to seem' in English) on the right.
