Contemporary Images
A collection of contemporary images made as part of the Herefordshire Life Through A Lens project.
These contemporary images revisit topics that Derek Evans documented, such as the Fownhope Heart of Oak walk, the Hereford May Fair, Herefordshire Football Club and Seasonal Hop Picking.
With thanks to participating photographers - Alex Thimm, Chloe Christian, Clova Perez-Corral, Matryn Duggan, Oliver Cameron-Swan, Richard Greswell and our project photographer Emma Drabble.
Herefordshire Life through a Lens is a three-year media and oral history project about the social history of Herefordshire, inspired by the extensive and newly accessible photographic archive from the Derek Evans Studio.
“Without question, Derek Evans was a fine and accomplished photographer. He was clearly passionate about Hereford and the region. His image repertoire was affectionate, humanist, liberal and well-crafted”
The project is led by Catcher Media Social CIC, a not-for-profit company in partnership with Herefordshire Council’s Libraries, Archive and Learning and Achievement Services. Funded by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and by The Elmley Foundation, The Beaumont Trust, Wye Valley Brewery, Ledbury, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye Town Councils and our crowd-fund supporters.
