Black and white photograph of a Wilfred Lane the busheller and Molly Morgan the Clerk, Manor Farm, Monkland, Herefordshire. The busheller can be seen bushelling up hops from the crib. Wilfred Lane was born 25th June 1907 in Cleobury Mortimer, Worcestershire. One of eight children 4 boys 4 girls. He died 2nd February 1984 aged 76. His family moved to Pencombe in 1910, most probably work related. He left school at age of 14 and worked with horses. His father, being a carpenter, trained Wilfred and his brothers and later in life he put this to use working in the building trade. He loved country pursuits and was keen on shooting and fishing. Like many others he had various part time jobs and during the hop season would be employed as busheller (also providing a Clerk) mainly at the Farm belonging to Don Davies, Manor Farm, Monkland where this photo was taken. |
