Shown are members of the boys regiment Royal Artillery heading 22 geese, this procedure commenced after a pet goose belonging to the commanding officer of the camp was accidently slaughtered in 1955. Boys regiments originated in the Victorian army system of 'boy service' (children enlisted for non-combat duties e.g buglers), During the world wars enlistees under 18 years old where allocated to Training Units that evolved into boy's regiments. |
