CORRESPONDENCE .
PATRIOTIC MEETING .
To the Editor of The Kington Times . Sir , I should be glad of a little space in your next issue to reply to the letter in your last by the Rev. F. E. Powell .
He says he wants no German peace and can- not see that meetings during the war between the various bodies in all belligerent countries can result in anything but good . How is it possible for any peace ( so called ) made now to be anything but a German peace , seeing that the thing we are up against , viz . , evil , would still remain in force and have hereafter to be put down , and the party that is now tire channel for that error would also remain to devise and carry out further schemes to dom- inate the world and prove that might is right , " and so establish military autocracy at the expense of universal democracy ? suggestion of compromise is the very poison which the enemy is putting abroad for the unsuspecting to absorb , and it cannot be pat- riotic to urge that steps be taken in contradic- tion of the Allies ' determination to stamp out military dictatorship by continuing the war , for it is plain a compromise can never be a win .

In your last issue appeared a translation o the latest German Hymn of Hate , which runs as follows : -
" Sons of Germany , the great hour has come . Neither women nor children must be spared , because the children of the vanquished may some day vanquish your country . For- ward ! Shatter ! Destroy ! Thrust ! Burn ! Kill ! Kill ! Kill ! Kill ! Kill ! "

A GALLANT LEOMINSTER
SOLDIER .
Pte . George Griffin , Gloucestershire Regi- ment , is home on leave after trying experien- ces in France . His home is in Bridge Street and before joining up at the commencement of the war he was an insurance agent . When our representative mentioned to Pte . Griffin a rumour that he had won the Military Medal he denied it , but admitted that three weeks recommended for the honour . ago he was Pte . Griffin , who has been acting as a stret cher bearer for the last 10 months , took part in bringing in wounded men from the open who had been lying there for some time . In
recognition of their bravery and devotion to duty he and another man , Pte . Hunt , of Gloucester , were recommended for decoration . We regret to learn from Pte . Griffin that as recently as Saturday last his comrade was killed by his side by a shell which fell into their tent . The terrible shock naturally had upon Pte . Griffin and it will be agreed that he has well earned a fortnight's stay in the quiet of his home , and in the com- pany of his wife and two children . Pte . Grif- fin joined the Herefords in November , 1914 , and went to France in August , 1916 , with the Gloucester Regiment .

Space does not permit me to deal fully with the many aspects if this subject , but I feel the Allies are passing through a time when it is most essential for us to urge and prac- tice steadfastness , and if we cannot ourselves do anything to support those who are trying to win the war , at least we can refrain from urging views which can only act as a danger to the great object the Allies have in view . of one of our well known writers ( Mr. G.
