ATTENDANCE AT Church St. , Kington . The 47 , Duke Street , KINGTON . Kington Times . SATURDAY , DECEMBER 29th , 1917 . KINGTON NOTES . Within a few days the year 1917 will have been merged with its forerunners into that comprehensive period the " past , " and the world in general and we in this town in par ticular will be upon the threshold of a year of new and as yet unknown experiences . As at this time last year there are many shadows which we would fain ignore but cannot , but remembering the many blessings which we as a town and district and no less as a country have been favoured we may look forward not without hope and certainly without discourage- ment to the year 1918. A firm and confident outlook is due from us not only as citizens of a great Empire but as representing the heroic men who are face to face with the realities of war on every front . Reading their letters we may trace home - sickness , a longing for a re- turn - yes , all that , but above and beyond that a strong determination that before the happy day of peace can be thought of , the dread terror which now stalks the earth must be for ever laid low and crushed . " In that spirit we may expect much that is good of the coming cycle of seasons and in that spirit we wish our readers A HAPPY NEW YEAR . THE KINGTON S. DECEMBEI . LADY HAWKINS ' GRAMMAR SCHOOL . The School continues to make good and satisfactory progress in every respect . I am particularly gratified at our increase in numbers . We now have 61 pupils , 33 boys and 28 girls , an in- crease of 8 boys on last year's numbers , most of them very young and therefore likely to remain in the School till they get a thorough grounding . We have steadily maintained our reputation for good , sound work , and we can once more proudly record that we have not had a single failure in any public examination during the course of the year . Lewis Edward Jones J. O. R. Hughes sat last December for part I. of the Preliminary Certificate Ex - willing helpers : - amination of the Board of Education , and were successful .
