Harding ( Medical Officer ) , R. P. Morris ( Inspector ) , and F. Exton ( Surveyor ) . Mr. Lloyd : You see the drift ? Mr. Meredith said he could quite see the drift and went on to say that he had read the other day of a question in the House of Com- mons by a member which had bearing on thi matter . It was asked that supposing one far mer put the rent of his cottage at 1s . a week , and another stated that he was going to value it as a rental of 66. per week and in the event of the wages being 25s . a week how were they going to settle the matter . The Committee appointed to meet at Pem- bridge relative to the claim of Mr. T. Bevan for the value of two colts which were killed on the line near Pembridge Station in Novem- ber last through the alleged negligence of the Council's workmen , reported that they met at Pembridge on the 12th of February , 1917 , with Mr. Philpin and the Surveyor in attendance , let at £ 5 The Surveyor ( Mr. Lingen ) thought it would be met by taking the usual rate . Mr. Meredith said there were some cottages let in that district at 35s . a year and others at £ 5 a year , and some let at 358. a year were better than those let at £ 5 a year according to and that having , interviewed Mr. Bevan and inspected his field and the locality generally , the Committee came to the conclusion that while sympathising with Mr. Bêvan in the loss he had suffered the Council be recommended that no liability attaches to them in respect thereof . On the motion of the Chairman , seconded by Mr. Ratcliffe , the report was unanimously adopted . Messrs . Deacon's tender for work at Bul- lock's Mill for £ 11 18s . was accepted . A letter was read from the Kington Rural Parish Council stating that at a meeting held on the 17th ult . it was unanimously agreed that the gate erected by Mr. Moor , at Rushock should be removed , as if allowed to remain it . would greatly inconvenience the inhabitants of the district who use the road . Mr. Meredith mentioned cases of ambiguities in the assessment in the district .. was all Mr. Stephens said the assessment wrong ; it was antiquated and unfair in every respect . Cases Mr. Kinsey said they were assessed according to rental in that Union ; it was not so in the Knighton Union . If a man was assessed very high they assessed him lower .
