In Leominster and in the district they had the opportunity . In the cities there were hun- dreds and thousands of people who could not produce anything and therefore he still ap- pealed to them to cultivate every yard of Mr. Kennedy Jones in the House of Commons the other ground they possibly could .
In the course of a despatch from the front entitled " Flowers of Spring and Fires of KINGTON R.A.M.C. HERO . Hell , " Mr. Philip Gibbs in the Daily Chronicle it would be brought to their minds more for- night said that we had just sufficient to last
With further reference to the death of Pte . Arthur Cecil Caunt , R.A.M.C. , younger son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Caunt , High Street , May Kington , who was killed in France on 12th , an extract from the Chaplain's letter to the bereaved parents states : " He was in an underground dressing station , which the Ger mans shelled heavily .
It was an important ation and he had done excellent work there always under trying circumstances . He never knew the danger of it , but rejoiced in his work and did it well . The shell penetrated the cellar and killed him instantaneously , He was buried on which was very merciful . Sunday ( 13th ) and many of his comrades came to the service . We all miss him very much . " Pte . Caunt was confirmed on the Canal Bank at Ypres on the 9th of May by the Bishop of Khartoum , and the Chaplain adds : " He re- ceived his first communion within 48 hours of his death . "
A KINGTON PROMOTION . Amongst the latest promotions in the Here- fordshire Regiment is that of Second - Lieut . W. D. Chipp , of Kington , to be Lieutenant and Adjutant . Lieut . IN A FOREIGN LAND .
Far , far away in a wild foreign land , While the Sabbath sun is setting ; By a comrade's grave stands a soldier band , For awhile the world forgetting . And one to the rest is reading of peace , . When the warfare of life is o'er ;
Of a home where pleasures shall never cease , Where the wicked shall vex no more .
And so they gaze on that new - made grave , And think that a mate sleeps below ; That over him soon the green grass will
wave ,
Who will wonder if tears fast flow ?
- For the British soldier is still a man , To his glory be it told ;
In danger he's always found in the van , The boldest of the bold .
But still in his heart is mercy enshrined , And a feeling for fellow man ; Which embraces the whole of human kind , Of ev'ry country , clime and clan . What meinories sweet of friends and of home , In their far away native land- Old England's fair isle , encircled with foam ,
