At the monthly meetinp of Kington Board of Guardians on Tuesday there were present : Mr. E. Bird ( Chairman ) , Miss Pearson , Messrs . . H. Greenly , Edward Thomas , William Davies , J. H. Goodwin , J. Williams , J. A. Beebee , J. Kinsey , J. W. Stephens , T. W. Sankey , D. B. Powell , Colonel Pearson , and B. Philpin ( Clerk ) .
The Master ( Mr. Griffiths ) reported that at the last meeting of the Board the number of inmates were 40 , there had been admitted dur- ing the fortnight , discharged 3 , now in the House 37 , corresponding period , last year 45 , decrease 8 , vagrants admitted 44 , corresponding The Master period last year 59 , decrease 15 . acknowledged gifts of illustrated papers for the inmates from Mrs. Turner ( Arrow Lodge ) , Mrs. James Meredith and a daily paper from Colonel Pearson .
A letter was read from Miss Greenly stat- ing that the Red Cross Hospital had the offer of the billiard table from the Institute and asking if the Guardians would allow them to fix it in the Board Room for the use of the wounded soldiers , the Red Cross Society paying all expenses connected tlierewith .

Walter Price , of Turnpike Cottage , Hergest Road , workman for Mr. Owens , of Hergest Court , stated that on August 5th between 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning he was along with Mr. Bourne near the river at the top of Mr. Owens's ground where the hedge divides it from the School farm land . He saw the three defendants there fishing in the river ing with rods and lines . He did not see them Arrow off Mr. Owens's land . They were fish- catch any trout . He and Mr. Bourne watched them fishing for about 10 minutes .
T. W. Bourne stated that he was present with the previous witness and saw the three defendants fishing for trout with a rod and line . Each of them gave witnes his name when they were doing anything wrong .
Each defendant told the Bench that they had a license and did not know it was preserved water , also that they did not know it was im- proper to fish at night .
The Bench said they considered the cases clearly proved and each defendant must have known that the water was preserved and that fishing at night was illegal .

He was Jones , of Marston , Pembridge . He was the son of Mrs. J. Griffiths , Stone House , formerly a grocer's assistant at Knighton , and Dilwyn . MILITARY FUNERA DILWYN .
The funeral took place at . Dilv with military honours on Thursday Thomas Vaughan , who passed aw day last at the age of 21. The dec man , who was the son of Mr. Jam of Hill Bank , Dilwyn , volunteered break of war , joining the K.S.LI. 15th for 7 years . After training in try , he went out to France . URBAN DISTRICT COUN CO - OPTION OF MEMBERS . The monthly meeting of the Presteign District Council was held on Wednesday ing . Mr. J. H. Gri The Clerk read a letter from Councill Rogers stating that owing to ill health he could not attend the meetings of the cil , as they were held in the evening , a therefore felt with much regret after 30 service as a member of the Council , com to tender his resignation .
Mr. William Bird proposed that the re tion of Councillor Rogers be accepted . This was seconded by Mr. S. Morris carried .

SUCCESS .
We are glad to learn that Mr. Sidney Mi champ , youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Cha Millichamp , has just passed his examinati for assistant clerks in the Civil Service . Millichamp passed 63rd out of 524 , and tained 1,320 marks out of a possible 1.9 ( 69.5 per cent . ) , and writes that he had not study very hard to pass . He was educated the Hereford Street Council School and at t Presteign County School and states that found what he had learnt at the County Scho very useful to him .
Mr. Sidney , Millicham has also passed his examination as 21 bo mechanic in the R.N.A.S.

The result of the draw for a sheep offered in connection with the Y.M.C.A. effort re sulted in the sheep being won by Mr. Lewis Price , of Haresgreen , Norton .

One of the most interesting exhibits at the decent Y.M.C.A. Show was a fretwork mem- orial tablet of Nurse Cavell , which had been artistically executed by Mr. Alec Bosley . of Hereford Street , and kindly presented to the Show . This was drawn for and won by Miss E. Jones , of Warden Road , Presteign .

On Friday after the usual monthly arction Mr. Philip Davies , auctioneer , Presteign , of fered for sale by auction five sheep which had been kindly given by Mr. D. E. Edwards . Mr. Wooley ( Kinsham ) , Mr. Morgan ( Kinsham ) . Mr. S. O. Davies ( Lower Heath ) , and Mr. H. J. Yeomans ( Kinsham ) , for the benefit of the fund . The sheep realised £ 11 10s .
