And we used to go over when The Americans were at I We used to run up over there every Saturday and Sunday. They blocked the stream Of course there wasn't a swimming pool in that day. Of course we didn't know about D-Day. And we used to go there quite regular, you know, they used to give us. Chocolate candy, you know, and, and stuff like that. I, um, sometimes they say, bring me some cakes next time you come like and and give me a shilling or something like that. Did you bring me my cakes, boy? Yeah, I'll give it to the fellow down in down there. And he said, gee, I'll give you, I'll give you a shilling to get me some cakes and, and you've given it to somebody else. Oh, I said, well, I, I, I didn't know. Anyway, And all there is now. And one Sunday morning, Saturday morning maybe Sunday morning, I do my chores at home before I get away. Um We used to go over the top of the Connerbury Wood and drop down into Eastern, you know, didn't go to the roadway, you know, up, up the Worcester Road, and then, you know, the little opening that in the Worcester Road to go up the Connery. So straight up there and over the top, over the old golf links, which was in them days it was all ploughed up because it was part of the eastern estate and it's all part of the more effort for food, I suppose, and uh, and dropped down into uh into Easterner. And we did went this morning would be 6 of us. And it was gone. Not a scrap of paper left, really. Just Went like that Of course they're all going to D-Day. The only thing that was left and still there is the concrete slabs where the cookhouse was. That was all covered in tents. 0 |
