And I lived at a little farm. Little Marco Court where my father farmed. Hops was the main concern. We had cattle, sheep. Uh, no pigs. I don't, can't remember them. Corn. And we Uh The hops was the main enterprise, so everything revolved around hops. We were always Working in the hops, hop tying, stringing, uh, we saw it right through to the end till they were picked and put in the pockets and sent off to the brewer. So that's about as much as I can say about my home life. And to get to school, I used to ride my pony and put the pony up at the feathers Hotel and then traipse down from there, leave my dungarees in in the stables, and the man who helped in the stoke the fires of the feathers used to take my dungarees and put them in the kitchen, I think, and 3:3030 he'd always have them nice and warm, having been on the Argo, keeping warm and then coming back, I had nice warm dungarees to put on and um picked the pony up and off. |
